Anxiety-free sedation dentistry is an answer that works well for many Bakersfield Patients!

Am I a candidate for sedation dentistry?

A significant number of people suffer from some degree of anxiety regarding the dentist. It is our first priority to ensure that all of our patients feel comfortable, and we make every effort to provide a calm, relaxed environment.

Our office offers a variety of methods in sedation dentistry, and will work with you to find the best solution for you. Anxiety is understandable, but it is our goal that it doesn’t interfere with you receiving the best possible care.

Inhalation Sedation

Nitrous oxide, also known as laughing gas, is most often used for patients who are mildly or moderately anxious or nervous. It eases their fears so that they can relax and receive treatment comfortably and safely. As the gas begins to work, the patient becomes calm, but is still awake and can communicate. When the gas is turned off, the effects of sedation wear off almost immediately.

Oral Conscious Sedation

Oral Conscious Sedation is an excellent answer to overcome anxiety and fears.

Patients who are more anxious may choose an oral medication that is stronger than nitrous oxide. Our office uses sedatives that have been well-documented for their safety and effectiveness. By taking a small pill, you will feel more relaxed and comfortable than you ever imagined. You may feel sleepy and at the end of your treatment, you almost won’t remember you were at the dental office at all!

Sedation is also an option for patients with any of the following condition:

  • Jaw discomfort or difficulty controlling muscles for prolonged periods of time
  • Patients who have several lengthy procedures needed
  • Difficulty reacting to local anesthesia
  • Strong gag reflex
