Bakersfield, CA – Are you embarrassed to smile because you don’t like the way your teeth look? Are they too small, or stained, or just a little less than perfect? Porcelain veneers may be a great option to help you transform your smile, and your life.
Dental veneers are a beautiful way to correct a smile that is discolored, or slightly misaligned or uneven. I can even correct teeth that are worn down, chipped, broken, or that have a gap between them. If you don’t like to smile because of one of these issues, it’s time to visit your local Bakersfield cosmetic dentist to see what I can do for you.
Veneers are wafer-thin shells that are made of porcelain and that adhere to the front surface of your tooth. I love using porcelain because it can resist stains better than a resin veneer can, and I think it looks most like a natural tooth with the translucencies and color nuances.
After your initial consultation, it will usually take two additional appointments before you have your new, beautiful smile. At the first consultation, we’ll discuss what your smile goals are, and how cosmetic dentistry can help you. After a thorough examination, I will take some measurements and a series of photos to make sure veneers are the ideal options for you.
Then, the next step is to prepare the tooth or teeth that will receive the veneers. I’ll need to remove part of the surface of your existing tooth to ensure the veneer will fit naturally in with the rest of your teeth. I typically only need to remove about one half of a millimeter of tooth enamel.
If you’re worried about what your smile will look like in the meantime – don’t. I will prepare a temporary resin-based veneer to cover and protect the prepared tooth (teeth) and we won’t take a final impression for the lab fabrication until you have approved the exact size, shape, and color that you desire.
A porcelain veneer is a wonderful way to upgrade your smile, and porcelain veneers have many advantages. You’ll have a natural looking appearance with a stain resistant veneer, and often, your smile will look brighter and whiter than ever before.
It’s important to remember, however, that a veneer is simply a covering over a natural tooth. I always encourage my patients to properly care for the veneer to ensure the tooth underneath stays healthy.
