Bakersfield, CA – 3-D imaging devices have long been used by medical professionals to diagnose diseases and plan treatment options.
Now, one 3-D imaging device is revolutionizing dentistry as we know it.
Developed by global dental equipment manufacturer Sirona, there is no better way to diagnose dental problems and develop treatment plans.
“3-dimensional imaging is really incredible,” says Cosmetic Dentist Dr. Thomas Frank DDS in Bakersfield. “This technology allows us to go where standard 2-dimensional X-ray imaging simply can’t.”
Here’s how it works: Using state-of-the-art 3D Volumetric Tomography, a dentist can visualize all of the structures in a patient’s mouth vertically, horizontally, and cross-sectionally. The digital machine also utilizes radiation at a fraction of the dosage to traditional 2-D radiography.
“We use it to plan dental implant cases,” says Dr. Frank. “By manipulating the images in 3-D with sophisticated computer software, I can view the complete area where the implant will be placed. The end result is perfect placement, every time.”
3D Cone Beam technology utilizes a fan-shaped beam of radiation similar to a medical CAT Scan. The machine rotates around the patient’s head, providing a full view of the the teeth, sinuses, upper and lower jaws, and TMJ with an extremely high degree of accuracy and precision.
“We wouldn’t think of planning an implant case without it.”
Dr. Frank utilizes 3-D imaging to determine the exact size, shape, and placement of the titanium implant part. The implant is then surgically placed by a specialist with whom Dr. Frank collaborates. Finally, Dr. Frank and his team will aesthetically complete the restorative “crown” portion of the implant.
“Since Sirona’s Cone Beam machine offers new diagnostic possibilities and reduced radiation for our patients, it’s a win-win for everyone involved,” says Dr. Frank.
